Why “just because” beats every occasion
An anniversary letter is expected. A letter that shows up on an ordinary Tuesday with no reason on it is the one she tells her friends about. It says you were thinking about her when nothing required you to. That is the entire message, and it is a good one.
What to write when there is no reason
- The thing you noticed. "You hummed in the car yesterday and didn't know you were doing it."
- The thing you would never say out loud. Not because it is big. Because it is small and would sound weird at dinner.
- A memory from before you were together that you have never told her.
- Nothing at all. Three sentences. "No reason. Thought about you. That's it." Signed. It works.

How short can it be?
Three sentences is fine. One is a little much. Two is perfect if they are the right two.
Will it seem like I did something wrong?
